Our first Raising the Barre meeting is THIS Saturday, September 11th, from 12:30pm-1pm! Raising the Barre is open to all BDSOPA students in grades 6-12.
What is Raising the Barre?
Raising the Barre is our community outreach program! It provides a great opportunity for students in grades 6-12 to help others while having fun, engaging in new experiences, and gaining valuable leadership skills. In addition, participating in Raising the Barre can help fulfill school community service requirements, and volunteer hours can be documented for college applications.
Raising the Barre meets approximately once per month, usually on Saturdays, with additional group meetings scheduled as needed. Students work together to plan and participate in various community service projects throughout the year! Students play an active role in each step of their projects, gaining leadership skills as they plan, connect with organizations, and complete their service projects.
Previous projects include:
Hosting a Dance-a-Thon, raising over $1000 for PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center
Working with Fleece for Keeps to make fleece blankets for children in foster care
Teaching dance workshops at Chester County Family Academy's summer camp
Baking holiday cookies for families coping with cancer
Working at Habitat for Humnaity ReStore
Hosting a toy drive for Toys for Tots
Volunteering with the Friendship Circle
...and more!
